Virtual Worlds
FRI is active in two virtual world platforms. Our work in both
OpenSim and Second Life® is widely documented.
As part of our commitment to our virtual worlds-based product design
and development solution, we feel it is important to showcase our deep
understanding of this technology. To that end, we maintain our
corporate islands in the Second Life Grid, where we have five islands
under the Shengri La complex. Shengri La is open space where virtual
world visitors may visit and enjoy shopping for virtual fashions, sailing
in virtual waters, or viewing virtual art. We even have virtual
animals to greet our guests!
We are pleased to showcase the work of leading virtual worlds artists
such as our official photographer,
Callipygian Christensen, and our sculptor-in-residence, Pumpkin Tripsa.
Both have their work showcased throughout our 'corporate pitchdeck'.
If you have an avatar, you can visit our 3D corporate pitch deck in Second
Life, by
clicking here for a SLurl which will allow you to teleport directly to
the welcome area. Or, you can first visit the SecondLife.com website
and register an avatar and then visit us by following the link.
Our work in OpenSim is documented through our blog. OpenSim is the open
source, reverse engineered virtual world which uses the Second Life®
client interface. You can visit many of the OpenSim grids which
permit visitors, and you can learn more about OpenSim from the
OpenSimulator project web site.
Our OpenSim research sims are not open to the general public.
They are strictly limited access to our IBM collaborators and business
partners. We initially conducted alpha testing on the IBM-hosted OpenSim Shengri
La Spirit. Spirit is currently in abeyance while we work in our
OpenSims behind our firewall, Shengri La Diva, Shengri La Muse, Shengri La
Liberty and Shengri La Bliss. .
FRI is deeply grateful to its colleagues at IBM for their diligent
efforts on FRI's behalf to develop our virtual worlds solution.
