Complete Orientation PackagesFashion Research Institute's orientation package
was developed based on four years of research, which included first
hand observation of more than 55,000 new users to virtual worlds,
which included unstructured interviews, direct interactions
with and other non-intrusive
data collection on the behavior of new users.
By tracking selected individuals over a period of time, FRI
researchers were able to gather rich information about how new users
initially instantiate and how their further evolution occurs within
approximately the same environment.
Deep immersion has been shown to yield significantly greater
results where virtual worlds are used for work and education, and
the results obtained by tracking individuals who successfully
immersed over time was invaluable in developing the Fashion Research
Institute orientation package. This package is fully encapsulated in an OpenSim
Archive Resource (OAR) file, which is licensed in its entirety to
the enterprise or virtual world operator which wishes to provide
these services to is new users. The OAR file includes all signage
and directional information, the full region development (terrain,
terrain files, buildings, arrangement), any scripting required, and
of course, critical avatar customization content for the corporate
user, including the FRI default avatars John and Jane.
2 hours of mentor training is included in the package, with
additional training and discussion available a la carte.
